HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A FARNSWORTH A DAY!!!

Can it be?! Has it already been a year? Yep! One year ago today, my father joined the daily painting movement. Having been a full time painter for about the last four decades (longer than I’ve been alive!) this wasn’t much of a stretch for him. What is different, though, is the size of these little paintings. Every day he paints a 6×6 inch oil painting. This is quite a bit smaller than his usual works- including a 20×30 foot mural!! He says the freedom of  these little paintings is offering the most fun he’s had in years. Happy Birthday, Pops!

CONGRATULATIONS TO QIANG-HUANG!

Daily painter Qiang-Huang made a major announcement today on his blog. He is going Full Time!! Because Rosa’s Picks is dedicated to the fun of looking at a lot of paintings every day and picking my favorite, I am not often caught off guard or brought to tears. But his post today did both! I got tears in my eyes reading about the decision, that a man I have never even met, has made! His post includes a charming photo of him at his former job as an engineer, as well as some tearjerking words!  To read his beautiful words, and see his lovely paintings, go to http://qiang-huang.blogspot.com/

What a wonderful leap to take. I wish you every great success in your endeavors, Qiang-Huang!! Cheers!

A NEW PAGE!

In the course of a conversation the other day, the topic of starting an art collector from birth emerged. What a concept! Having grown up with art, I had never thought about it. Art is a part of daily life and that’s how it is, right? Well, no. I searched about a billion (totally exaggerating) nursery photos and very few actually had paintings hanging on the wall. I did find a couple of nice looking rooms with great walls though…

Vintage baby doll quilts!

So, I’ve created a new page called Growing Up With Art in the Art In Life section of this blog. I took some of the photos of nurseries that I found and chose paintings that I would like to see hanging in them. I hope you’ll let me know what you think!

PS If I can find the time, I want to show you a whole page of Fabulous toy paintings! Oh man, there are some really great ones out there!!

IN THE FOREST by Jason Tako

Is it just me? Or are turkeys really ugly and kinda cute at the same time? I love the face on this little guy! And that moss on the fallen trees is making me crazy- I looove moss! And I can feel the soft feathers and the rough bark right through the screen!!

53 GREENE ST. NYC by Stephen Magsig

At first I picked this painting because it reminded me what I love about the city. But then after I really looked at it, I was even more impressed! So, subject matter aside… Without being a photorealist painting, it has all the detail and ‘juice’ of a photo. But with the soul of a painting!
